About the Author
Brian P Denman is a patient living with diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN). He previously wrote Comprehensive Guide to Stem Cells and Their Treatments.
Like many people managing a complex chronic condition, I have spent years reading about my diagnosis and about emerging therapies, listening to clinic marketing claims, and trying to separate genuine scientific progress from hype. Diabetic autonomic neuropathy affects the nerves that control involuntary body functions: heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, bladder function, and more. When standard treatments leave questions unanswered, the search for better answers is natural and urgent.
That search led me first to stem cell treatments, and to my earlier book. The volume of online claims was overwhelming. Scientific reviews, FDA documents, and patient forums often contradicted one another. I created that guide because I needed a clear, honest framework for myself, and I believed other patients and families needed the same.
My DAN guide grew out of a more basic question I kept running into along the way: is every symptom I have really caused by diabetic autonomic neuropathy? The guidelines are clear that diabetic neuropathy is a diagnosis of exclusion. Other conditions, some of them treatable, can look the same or can exist alongside diabetes. Patients deserve to know that, and to know what questions to ask.
This is not a story of personal cure or miracle results. My condition gives me a personal stake in accurate information, but it does not make me a medical expert. Everything I write is intended to support conversations with qualified physicians, not replace them.
If you are also living with diabetic autonomic neuropathy, or you love someone who is, I hope my work helps you ask sharper questions and protect yourself from both false hope and unnecessary fear.
